Discover the changes and improvements in Moodle 4.0, the new version of the open-source learning management system.
Moodle 4.0 is now available, bringing with it some exciting new developments and features.
We told you last year that the latest version of Moodle LMS was expected to transform the platform’s user experience. Moodle has now delivered on those promises, with several new features that make the LMS easier to use for administrators and learners alike.
The overarching purpose of those improvements is to make it easier to focus on learning, with cleaner structures, easier navigation and collapsible content all contributing to that.
Let’s take a look at some of the new features.
Improved navigation
Moodle 4.0 makes it easier for your users to find their way around the platform. There’s intuitive navigation at site, course and module level, a simplified navigation hierarchy, and consistent navigation experiences across desktop and mobile.
Better course experiences
Courses have been improved so that it’s easier to edit them and to understand what to do next. The improvements include a new course page structure, a course index for quick navigation and collapsible sections within courses for a cleaner user experience. Course structures can now be seen at a glance, so it’s easy to keep track of your progress or to navigate to specific content.
More powerful reporting
For Moodle Workplace users, Moodle 4.0 introduces a new and improved report builder, with better reporting functionality and user experience, easier custom report creation, and a new reporting API.
BigBlueButton integration
Moodle 4.0 offers in-built video conferencing courtesy of an integration with BigBlueButton, a platform built specifically for use within educational settings.
Quiz and question bank improvements
In Moodle 4.0, you can set questions as drafts or ready. Admins can also add observations on a particular question via a Comments field.
Collapsible content
In several areas, the new version introduces collapsible content so that users can avoid distractions and focus on smaller pieces of information at any given time.
